Different Types of Stereo's / Head Units

There are 2 Standard Sizes for car audio head units which is the Single/1DIN or Double/2DIN.  There are also Diffrent types of stereo's the most basic and old school is the Am/FM Stereo, then we have the ones with the tape deck, then came the CD's with MP3/USB/Memory card and the ones with the DVD, Lastly we have the units with everything on it DVD/CD/MP3/USB/Memory Card/Auxin/Bluetooth/Satellite/GPS etc..

Standard Stereo Sizes

The first ones we have are the Single DIN or 1 DIN size which is the most common for all car types. See pics below:

Next we have the Double DIN or 2 DIN size these are the bigger ones and usually comes with Large LCD Screens.  See the pics below:

Different Types of Stereos and Head Units

The first and most basic and old school one is the AM/FM Stereo.  These are found usually on really old cars.  See pic below:

Next we have the ones that came with cassette tapes. Now these stereos transitioned from the typical analog displays into digital displays, some features that were also added were equalizers that were built in, Digital sound processors for more advanced models, remote controls were also first seen here. Controls changed from dials to push buttons. See pics below:

Soon after we had stereos that had CD players in them, this replaced the cassette tapes slot on the stereo.  On some more advanced models you would have MP3 playback capbility a USB slot an Aux in slot and a memory card slot as well.  See pics below

Then we had the DVD Stereo's which looked typically like your CD units mostly with the same functions like USB/MP3/Auxin/bluetooth/GPS navigation etc. Some were 1DIN and others were 2DIN types.
